Ultra Racing secures the purchase of a colt by Savabeel
Ultra Racing buys a colt by Savabeel for $775,000 at the Karaka 2016 Premier Sale at Little Avondale Stud
The colt is from unraced mare Generous Nature and is a full-brother to the Group II winner Savvy Nature. Toby Koenig went to New Zealand to successfully secure the sale, which Sean Buckley and the entire Ultra Group is thrilled about.
Toby Koenig spoke to NZ Racing News and said:
“We have always been keen on the Savabeels, having bought a number of them through this sale,” he said.
“Their racetrack performance been outstanding and you can see the fierce competition every time a yearling by him steps into the ring. We’ve managed to secure a pair of superb colts and we’re very happy to be taking them home to Australia.”

Defiant Angel wins the Quayclean Handicap at Morphettville
Defiant Angel finished 1st at the Quayclean Handicap (1600m) at Morphettville on the 2nd January 2016. A great start to the year for the 6YO, ridden well by Ms E Finnegan, with a prize of $32,000. It has been a promising start to 2016 for Sean Buckley and the Ultra Thoroughbreds team.
Coerced Witness wins Campolina Stud Handicap (1515m)
Coerced Witness won the Campolina Stud Handicap at Morphettville on the 2nd January 2016. She raced well from the start ridden by jockey Ms E Finnegan, and came from 3rd on the turn at latest outing to record a great win with prize money of $29,000.

– Tear Gas @ Doomben Race 3, 2:48pm
– Held Hostage @ Morphettville Race 8, 5:48pm
– Coerced Witness @ Morphettville Race 1, 1:08pm
– Time Walker @ Beaumont Race 7, 5:44pm
– Defiant Angel made a massive run for 2nd at Flemington and will be looking for some good racing over the summer.
– Coerced Witness finished 5th and we are excited by the 3yo filly and her potential looking ahead
– Tear Gas ran an impressive 5th and will be looking to improve next start.
– Time Walker flashed home for an exciting 3rd at Beaumont and will look for longer distances over the coming weeks.
Star Witness progeny Minetti wins Fillies Maiden Plate
We are pleased to see that Star Witness progeny Minetti taking her most significant win to date! On 22nd Oct 2015 at Ballarat, Minetti won the $23,000 3-y-o Fillies Maiden Plate.
Minetti is a 3yo bay filly (female) from Australia trained by Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes, who is based at Rosehill. She is sired by the stallion Star Witness out of the dam La Italia.

• Time-form Champion Australian 3yo 2013/14.
• The first horse in history to win the Gr 1 VRC Australian Guineas after winning the Gr 1 W.F.A W.S Cox Plate.
• His Gr 1 Cox Plate victory was one of the fastest ever run by a 3yo including 1.7sec’s quicker than successful sire Savabeel.
• His heroic, front running victory in the Gr 1 Australian Guineas saw him defeat Criterion, Eurozone etc.
• A multiple Group performer at Two and was an eye-catching third in Gr 1 Caulfield Guineas.

Grand National 2015
The Grand National 2015 has started, opening on the 9th April with 7 races to kick things off. It has been running at the same place since 1839 at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, UK. It is a hugely popular festival with a variety of events and races throughout the weekend, ending in the final Grand National race on Saturday 11th April.
It will do doubt be an exciting festival, with as always, a thrilling race for the Grand National on Saturday!
